Hello, my name is Reid McLain…
I am originally from Colorado, USA, but I have lived and worked in South Korea since 2010.
I have a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Regis University and a second Master of Educational Technology from Boise State University, specializing in technology integration. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. studies in Education with a focus on Instructional Design and Technology at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I look forward to finally adding that third bar to my graduation gown sleeve.
I had a diverse professional background experience before settling on academia and instruction in Higher Ed. I have worked in luxury travel, hospitality, and retail; each has strong customer service requirements, which rely heavily on superb communication skills. As a mediator for Jefferson County courts for seven years, I worked in small claims and divorce mediation, which was a strong practice time for me in helping others remove the communication blocks with their interpersonal conflicts. I also owned and operated a competitive Scottish Highland dance school for over ten years.
As a communication practitioner, instructional designer, and technology integration specialist, my pedagogical philosophy revolves around active learning in the classroom–learning by doing. I have developed my classes as communication workshops designed to challenge students to break through personal barriers and fears, increase their confidence, and develop strong communication competencies. Passionate about the goals and dreams of my students, the class objectives are structured to help students attain transferable skills they can take with them into the professional world.
My research interests include many dimensions of human communication and behavioral economics that merge aspects of business, culture, gamification, entrepreneurship, technology, and instructional design and learning as it relates to Korea.
